4 Tips for Healthy Youthful Skin

That Anyone Can Do

Good skin care habits and healthy lifestyle choices can slow down the aging process. Here a 4 skin care tips you can do to keep your skin healthy and fight aging.

4) Remove dead skin cells.

Gently exfoliate your face once every 3 or 4 days and no more than that. Stay away from any product that has bits and beads in it. Aggressive rubbing and scrubbing will cause hyperpigmentation and actually thin the skin and age it faster! Look for an enzyme based exfoliator like Bioelements Kerafole. This product will sweep away dead cells. Revealing softer, smoother, glowing skin.

3) Choose wisely.

You are what you eat so choice healthy anytime you can. Eat a variety of fresh fruits and veggies daily. Look for organic as much as possible. Consume plenty of poultry and fish. Eat red meat a couple times a week. Make sure to stay hydrated by taking in plenty of water everyday too. Everything in moderation. A glass of wine once in a while is fine.

2) Don't smoke.

Not only will smoking increase your risk for lung cancer, but smoking can make a stroke or heart attack more likely as well. Smoking accelerates aging your skin. By narrowing the blood vessels of the skin, causing less blood flow, smoking will reduce the amount of oxygen and nutrients that can get to the skin. Research shows that a person who smokes 10 cigarettes a day for a minimum of 10 years is more likely to have deeply wrinkled, leathery skin than a nonsmoker.

1) No tanning.

Tanning is the quickest way to make your skin into a leather suit and increases your chance of developing skin cancer. Our bodies really weren't meant for it and whether it is a tan or a burn, that is your body's way of trying to protect itself. There is no such thing as a healthy tan. Always, no matter if it is summer or winter, sunny or cloudy, apply an SPF 30. When the sun is out both UVA and UVB are out. When its cloudy UVA rays are out. UVB are burning rays. UVA are aging rays which is why it is so important to put your sunscreen on daily.

Tanning is one of the fastest ways to age your skin. Your skin, unfortunately remembers every second you're in the sun. This is why much of the sun damage I see in my clients in their thirties is from sunburns and sun exposure in general, from when they were much younger. A tanning bed are even more dangerous. Twenty minutes in a tanning bed is equal to an entire day out in the sun.

Physical sun screens are my first pick because they protect you as soon as you apply them. This is not true of chemical sunscreens. A chemical sunscreen must be applied 20-30 before going out in the sun. A physical sunscreen main ingredient is titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. For more information on sunscreen, check out my post on Understanding Sunscreen.

This is just a few tips to keep you skin healthy and youthful. What are some of your tips?

Till next time. Your Esthetic Goddess, Susie

  2. I'd say I do these except for the tanning part. I do not visit a solarium center but still do not apply a sunscreen all the time. I know I should, I know it is good for skin health and I have some products around... Maybe I should include putting sunscreen on in my New Years beauty resolutions :)

  3. We eat a lot of fish in our house. I do need to incorporate more fruits. The vegetables, I do a lot of at home. I definitely think you need a regular routine when it comes to having healthy skins. I'm even trying to get my teens into a regular routine for skin care.

    1. Oh teens are the hardest of all to get them in a regular skin care routine. They don't want to do anything with regularity. Makes you want o pull your hair out!

  7. Wow! I didn't know about not using exfoliators without bits and beads, I also didn't think that my skin remembers every time I spend in the sun. I have some throwing away to do. Thanks a lot for this, it was very helpful for me.
